Una película secuela, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, se estrenó en diciembre de 2018 y se convirtió en la película de anime más taquillera de la franquicia. Una segunda película, Super Hero, se estrenó el 11 de junio de 2022.

Cuatro años después de la derrota de Majin Buu,[4] se ve a Goku trabajando como granjero, y su familia y amigos viven en paz. Sin embargo, el Dios de la Destrucción Beerus despierta tras décadas de letargo. Beerus, junto con su ayudante y maestro Ángel, Whis, busca a un guerrero conocido como el Super Saiyan Dios, amenazando con destruir la Tierra si pierde contra él.[5] Goku se transforma en el Super Saiyan Dios con la ayuda de sus amigos, lucha contra Beerus y pierde, pero sus esfuerzos apaciguan a Beerus, que perdona la vida al planeta.
